Dams (dental dams) are used to help protect against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) when having oral sex on the vagina or anus (rimming). They are a small, thin square of latex or plastic that acts as a barrier between the vagina or anus and the mouth, preventing the spread of STIs.

Oral sex is when you stimulate your partner’s genitals with your mouth, lips or tongue. This could involve sucking or licking their penis (also called fellatio), vagina, vulva or clitoris (cunnilingus) or anus (anilingus)

Where are Dams available?

Dams are on sale in pharmacies, shops, supermarkets, petrol stations, vending machines in toilets in pubs and from the internet. However if you have a C-Card you can get them for free from lots of places in Brighton & Hove. Find out more about C-Cards here.

They’re also available free from SHAC Clinics and most GPs (Doctors).
