COVID Vaccinations
Spring Boosters for people living with HIV
All people living with HIV are eligible for a Spring Booster 6 months after their last vaccination.
The majority of people living with HIV will need a total of 4 vaccination doses (2 primary doses, 1 booster, 1 Spring booster). When your Spring booster vaccination is due, you can book online directly with the vaccination centre or ring 119. Alternatively, wait for a letter from your GP inviting you to have a Spring Booster. You can use the text link we sent you to show your eligibility for the Spring booster when you attend the vaccination centre.
There are a small number of people living with HIV who are particularly vulnerable to becoming unwell with COVID – these are people with a CD4 count of < 200, those not on antiretrovirals and those with a detectable viral load. These individuals are recommended to have a total of 5 doses of COVID vaccine (3 primary doses, 1 booster, 1 Spring booster). If you are eligible for a total of 5 doses, you will be sent a letter from the Lawson Unit as proof of your eligibility. You can book as above.
Please note that people living with HIV may be eligible for 5 vaccine doses if they have other health conditions that mean they are more vulnerable to becoming unwell with COVID.
We advise all people living with HIV to be vaccinated for COVID-19. If you are concerned about the safety or effectiveness of vaccines, you can get more information here.
