Dr. Duncan Churchill has been a Consultant in HIV and Sexual Health Medicine at the Lawson Unit, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust since 1999. With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Churchill has been at the forefront of HIV care, focusing on improving HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in Brighton & Hove, a city with one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the UK.
Dr. Churchill is actively involved with BHIVA (British HIV Association). He was Honorary Treasurer for 6 years, was previously chair of the BHIVA Guidelines Subcommittee, and a previous author and chair/vice-chair of the BHIVA antiretroviral treatment guidelines. He is currently Convenor of examiners of the Diploma examination in HIV Medicine at the Society of Apothecaries.
His work has contributed to significant reductions in new HIV diagnoses through groundbreaking initiatives such as community-based testing, which has reduced new cases by 44% in Brighton.
Dr. Churchill remains committed to Brighton’s Fast-Track City initiative, working to achieve zero new HIV infections, zero deaths, and zero stigma by 2030.
