EmERGE Core

EmERGE was a European research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, where the team designed and implemented an mHealth platform designed to support people living with stable HIV. EmERGE was co-designed with patients living with HIV, with additional input from organisations including the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG), Politécnica, The Lawson Unit, and The Martin Fisher Foundation. Further info on the EmERGE team can be found here.
The EmERGE Core platform provides a secure, digital healthcare solution that enables users to access to their Lawson Unit blood results and appointment details via a mobile phone app. The app also includes a 2-way messaging function which allows users to message the Lawson Unit and get a receive a response from a clinician all within the app.
In addition to the EmERGE app, EmERGE can also be used as a part of a pathway that enables a reduction in face-to-face appointments. Patients living with stable HIV may benefit from substituting a face-to-face follow-up appointment following a bloods appointment with a ‘virtual appointment’. Results will be checked by a member of the Lawson Unit team, and communicated directly through to your app.

PrEP EmERGE

The EmERGE team adopted the original EmERGE platform through a rigorous local co-design process to produce the PrEP EmERGE app. The PrEP EmERGE digital health pathway was launched in May 2021 and aims to support people using HIV-PrEP by providing users access to their results, medication reminders to support adherence, vaccination history, details of appointments and a messaging system which allows direct communication from the clinic directly to the end-user. Furthermore, the PrEP EmERGE app can also support a reduction in necessary clinic appointments by providing a virtual pathway at alternate appointments.
