Dr. Amanda Clarke is a leading Consultant in HIV and Sexual Health Medicine at the Lawson Unit and Claude Nicol Centre, Brighton, and plays a pivotal role in the Brighton and Sussex Clinical Research Facility (CRF). As the Joint CRN Lead for Infection for Kent, Surrey & Sussex, Dr. Clarke specializes in overseeing cutting-edge HIV and Sexual Health clinical trials, ensuring that patients have access to the latest advancements in HIV and sexual health treatment and care.
Her research includes evaluating new antiretroviral therapies (ART), with a particular interest in dual-drug regimens, aimed at reducing long-term drug toxicities and in using injectable treatments. Dr. Clarke has been a principal investigator in several groundbreaking studies, including trials that explore the impact of novel HIV treatments, studies in underserved populations, drug toxicities and HIV Prevention strategies.
In her role at the Clinical Research Facility, Dr. Clarke coordinates a wide range of clinical trials, from early-phase drug development to large-scale trials that shape international HIV and sexual health treatment guidelines. Her work ensures that patients at the Lawson Unit and Claude Nicol Clinic are among the first to benefit from the latest therapeutic options.
In addition to her clinical and research roles, Dr. Clarke is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and clinical tutor at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, where she is involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. She is co-founder and chair of the BASHH BHIVA Sustainable Healthcare Special Interest Group which aims to promote best practice regarding sustainable healthcare and the environment in HIV & Sexual Health clinics across the UK.
