Eileen Nixon

Nurse Consultant in HIV

Eileen Nixon is a leading Nurse Consultant in HIV at the Lawson Unit in Brighton, with over 30 years of experience working in HIV care, spanning palliative, acute, and community settings. Since 2004, Eileen has been instrumental in supporting vulnerable and harder-to-reach patient groups, particularly those with complex health needs. She plays a pivotal role in training and developing HIV nursing at both national and international levels and has led on the national development of nursing competencies and models of care.

Eileen is deeply committed to reducing HIV stigma and is co-chair of the Brighton and Hove Towards Zero Stigma Working Group, part of the Fast-Track City initiative, which aims to change public perceptions of HIV and improve the lives of people living with the virus. Her PhD research focused on the interactions between healthcare needs and service delivery, particularly for those living with long-term HIV.

Eileen’s work also includes participatory research with patients, ensuring that healthcare services remain inclusive, effective, and responsive to the needs of individuals living with HIV.
