How we can help
We offer:
- support, information and education around HIV treatment, contraception and fertility, pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, cervical smears, menopause, bone and heart health, domestic violence, substance use, sexual assault, social issues, and concerns around mental health.
- A team of staff that includes a health adviser, peer support worker from the Sussex Beacon, HIV consultant, family planning/reproductive health consultant and specialist nurse
- Continued specialist support and onwards referrals if required.
Who is this service for?
The Sunflower clinic is for all women living with HIV (cis and trans) who have their care at the Lawson unit.
If you are a patient and would like to be referred, please speak to your HIV doctor or nurse.
We can accept referrals from other clinics where the referring team thinks there is a need for this service. If you are a healthcare professional who would like to refer a patient, please email us.

The Sunflower Clinic is held at the Lawson Unit.
When is the Sunflower clinic open?
Alternate Fridays from 10am to 1pm.
What to expect at an appointment
You will have the opportunity to see all the members of the sunflower team or to choose which team members would be most helpful for you to see.
Our team has been chosen to give a broad range of support.
Health adviser and Sussex Beacon Women’s Service
- Support for pregnant women and people living with HIV
- Mental health assessment, support with domestic violence, financial and housing issues
HIV consultant
- Discuss any health concerns and review your medications
- Request any investigations needed for general HIV care
Family planning and reproductive health doctor
- Menopause assessment and treatment advice
- Contraception advice and provision, including IUDs (coils)
HIV specialist nurse
- Smear tests and testing for sexually transmitted infections
- Blood taking and weight measurement
- Checks for heart disease risk, bone fracture risk, and blood pressure
